Introducing Smartmenu
Smartmenu is menuing application for Lirc (Linux infrared remote control).
It is my first step to make usage of remote with Linux box as easy and smart as possible. It means provide wide range of
functionality of computer, while keeping user interface, consisting of remote, display and optionally soundcard, simple
and straightforward. So your grandmother can understand how to use it ;-)
This is obviously quite complex task and Smartmenu is (for now?) only a small piece of what have to be done.
And of course still not complete piece. In spite of this, it is well usable even in this early stage of development.
It provides classical menu tree, in which you can browse (with remote) and which can be displayed (on XWindow system).
Features
- Menu definitions in XML - for simple feature adding in future
- Local shortcuts - for quicker browsing inside submenus
- Can operate while hidden - you can use menu without displaying it
- Customizable - behaviour, font and colors can be changed
- Keyboard control - You can now control smartmenu with your keyboard
Planned features
- Icon - smartmenu look can be improved. First step will be icons.
- LIRC key grabbing - So you can share a key between smartmenu and an application. If smartmenu is visible, it should get the key. Otherwise, the application should get it.
- Sounds - both for individual menu actions and browsing events
- Global shortcuts - for direct access of menu items
- Menu editor - GUI editor for easier menu definition editing
- ... and much more, see development section!
Check it out and drop a message how do you like it! Bug reports and feature requests are also wanted.
You can also send your menu definitions, so I can include them in feature release.
