Every
village and every district of Yokaïchi city has prepared
the kite contest : They have built the kite, have conveided the
decoration and will make the kite flight. The construction technique
and the flight technique look like the great Oodako technique.
Here is a "20 tatami" Oodako : 5.4meter wide and 5.7meter
high. This kite was made by the Kawaidera children Club. |
|
Small bamboo forests border the river where the festival takes place. During one year, a new shoot will grow into a 10 meter bamboo of 10 centimeter section at its base. The spars of the Yokaïchi Oodako are made of these bamboos. Yamada Takeshi-san, who is guiding us throught the forest, pushes aside a aggressive but not venomous snake. |
|
The different Oodakos have the same shape and the same making. They differ in height and in decoration. The decoration is composed, at the upper side, of a draft about animal or plant, and at the lower side, of a kanji (chinese caracter). The set draft/kanji must form a meaning, a sentence or a play of words. |

These children take part in the Oodako Contest. The selection criterias are the decoration, the meaning of the decoration, the flight and the flight technique of the team. There is one contest for children and one for adults. |
